but they don't realize that what the bible says about blood is not the real reason why they refuse blood transfusions.
therefore what the bible says at matthew 24:34 is not the real reason they believed it.
here too the real reason will only show up if the society ever changes what it teaches about blood transfusions.

i'm not but i bet that there are some that quiety worry about it.....what about you?
?
I might have twitched over a disaster on the news, much in the way your knee jerks when its tapped in a certain way, but now the conditioning has long gone I realise Armageddon isnt coming, it was just the fear instilled in us to keep a good (and active) dub.

"it is you jehovah your god has chosen to become his people.
are jw children born into god's chosen nation?
after pentecost 33 c.e., every individual...had to make a personal dedication to god and be baptized.
Very good review, many thanks Blondie - btw I love your new avatar, simply stunning! I especially liked the verse talking about repentance and works being used to determine if a witness should be DF or not - completely out of context, if only the rank and file would read the Bible for themselves, they would see things like this.

have you ever seen a congregation not raise enough hands to make a resolution pass?
I can remember that at the hall I attended, we had to vote each year based on the Elders recomendation of which time we wanted the Sunday meeting or which days in the week we wanted the school/service meeting and bookstudy group. Well one year it was the congregations turn to pick the weekday meetings, and the two options given were school/service on tuesday or thursday. Now I liked to get that meeting out of the way so I wanted early in the week, but all the Elders wanted it on Thursday - maybe to give more time to prepare talks? Anyway I can remember the vote was close but it fell on the Tuesday. One Elders face as he was looking round at who voted for the in effect 'rogue' time was distinctly unhappy. So he arranged for the vote to be done again another time as he said a few were away, his face was an even better picture as we one again by a still marginal count.

so who have you met who is famous or slightly famous and under what circumstances?
(for the benefit of cross atlantic variations in celebrity - attach a pic and/or explanation of who that celeb is) .
or have you never met anyone even slightly famous but have aspirations to do so!
The guy who played Trevor Cleaver in grangehill was at Crystal Palace Convention one year, I walked by him. And I've got the autograph of John Thaw who played Jack Reagan in the Sweeney and Inspector Morse.

i don't want to brag, but i have good news!
one of the elders said that i progressed considerably in reading and that after i get baptized, he wants to use me as the brother that reads the paragraphs in the watchtower study.
i went from being frightened of raising my hand to comment, to the possibility of me being the one reading the study for the congregation.
They like to name these chores as 'privileges' so that they seem a great thing to gain and a big thing to lose. I guess reading the watchtower may have some prestige for some. I read at both the group and watchtower study, didnt particularly enjoy the experience, and it was especially bad when I'd forgotton it was my turn and hadn't read through to see if there were any words I didnt know the correct pronunciation or names etc. I remember speed reading the next paragraph while questions were being answered in case anything like that came up and making judgement calls there and then on how I would say it!

i ask this question because saki said this in another topic:and i would assume that a lot of people on this board left due to this board alone "proving" the lies of the wts.
so, it this true or false?
or is this mostly true or mostly false?
I had already left and for a good while was still a bit unsettled at looking at 'apostate' sites. Eventually I looked things up on the internet that validated how I had been feeling about things, and came across this place and found it was good to talk with like minded people.

i never even thought of that till i read some of these posts.
i actually met a girl through the internet one time while i was still a witness.
she was on the other side of the country though.
I've met a few from here - just waiting for the dating part to start!

simon raised an interesting point in my last thread about so many leaving the forum - his point was that the ideal situation would be to move on and leave forums like this one in the past at some point.
agreed.
seems as though cult victims in general - and witnesses in particular - have been taught to divest oneself of the social tangibles needed to make friends and move on.
I think its fair to say that whether you've come from a JW background or not, all people can find it difficult to make friends. Perhaps our background creates an additional difficulty, but the fact that we are all here interacting with former JW's current JW's and people who have never been, shows we have some if not all the ability to be friendly and make friends. Its really about being with people, maybe having a common interest is the key? I guess we need to look at our other interests and see if those could bring us to other people. It sure does take time and confidence to make new friends, especially when most of us have lost family and former friends. My own situation is that I have met some from here which I mail/message, some from work that i'm trying to expand upon. I also have an interest in old VW's and have a few people I know from the shows i've attended, there are clubs for that too which I could join - except I work on the evenings they meet!
